I didn’t like this.

Usually after the first couple of paragraphs, maybe a chapter or two, I’ll put it down and won’t waste my time but one of her previous works, “Half of a yellow sun,” is one of my all-time favorite reads. So for that, I trudge on. And again, I didn’t like it.

The story of Ifemelu, a Nigerian attending Princeton, who travels the east coast experiencing the American customs. And racism. The trials and tribulations of a Black woman’s hair, an interracial relationship, contact with White people and the adopted American customs of her fellow Nigerians in her homeland.

Maybe because I personally live and see it everyday, there wasn’t anything new to me that held my attention. I could predict what was going to be said next.

Chimamanda’s an excellent writer like I said, “Half of a yellow sun,” was a masterpiece. I love books set in foreign lands with foreign tales nurtured over thousands of years. But I will give her credit, she has an audience and hopefully people who aren’t as familiar with racism can learn from this book and have their eyes opened.
